The Story : Kalavani is about a guy who studies in a tutorial college in his home town and is very naughty. Heroine Helen comes to the hero’s village to study in 11th class. Movie tells their love story with a lot of humour and tell how people in village handle love.
At the recent press-meet held by the makers of ‘Kalavaani’, the second film of Vimal of ‘Pasanga’ fame, its heroine Oviya was present. More often than not, the heroines tend to skip the press-meet in order to avoid probing eyes and questions. Oviya, who hails from the neighbouring Kerala (which appears to have an ‘agreement’ with Kollywood to supply heroines), is very fluent in Tamil.
Her fluency and command over Tamil is attributed to director Sargunam’s insistence that she learn Tamil first before starting the shooting of the film. In the film, Oviya’s character was required to speak in a slang and dialect followed in and around the Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu.
Oviya was taught to speak clearly and legible in the Thanjavur accent by the director, it was informed. Sargunam actually changed Oviya’s actual name, which was Helen. So, that’s how Helen became Oviya. Naseer, the debutant producer of the film, happens to be the manager of leading stars Madhavan and Trisha.
Had he wanted, Naseer could have brought together Madhavan and Trisha again on-screen for ‘Kalavaani’. Why did he then opt for Vimal and Oviya? Pat came the reply from Naseer who says that the ‘subject’ of the film wasn’t suitable to the pair of Maddy and Trisha and said that he has plans to cast them together in future.
