‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is the next major release scheduled for August release. The special invitees for the music launch function include Rama Narayanan, Abirami Ramanathan, R K Selvamani, Boopathi Pandian, S, Ezhil, Sabapathy Krishnamoorthy and Devi Sri Prasad.

The first copy of the audio will be released by director Hari and received by Lingusamy. The trailer of the film will be released by Vettrimaran and received by Vishnuvardhan.

‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is produced by K.E Gnanavel Rajan of Studio Green for Cloud Nine Movies and directed by Suseendran of ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame. The function will be attended by Karthi, is one of the hottest stars of this year with three consecutive hit films and the sensational Kajal Agarwal. Music of the film is Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The police are unable to find or stop a serial killer who targets men and dismembers their bodies. After a string of murder cases, involving mostly male victims being severed from the police are still baffled by the case and have no clue linking a murder suspect. An ex hitman named Tai, turned informant, tries to fill in the details of this baffling case. But the police simply disregard his valuable input, until now. The situation changes when the next victim is revealed as the son of a government official. The order is put out to capture the murderer at all costs. The police have nowhere to turn to for clues and so must revert to Tai for leads. But information from the Tai comes with a price. First he requests his freedom. In return, he promises to apprehend the murderer within 15 days. To make sure he can deliver the murderer as promised, his wife is held against her will until he can deliver the murderer. With Tai’s expertise in tracking down people, the ex hitman uses what he knows to gain insight and clues to the case. Remembering that one of his childhood friends has a history of mental illness that shows in the form of resenting the male species in general, thus starts a chase for the murderer. Tai must now duel it out and hopefully catch the right man.

From the director of “72 Tenants Of Prosperity” comes a period comedy movie about an emperor (Richie Ren) who disguises himself as a commoner and later falls in love with Phoenix (Barbie Hsu), the lady boss of an inn.

The classic tale of a king disguising himself as a commoner to get to know more about his country’s people and their hardships is revived once again in “Adventure Of The King”. Is it any different from other remakes of this tale? Yes, and no…

“Adventure Of The King” is rather self-explanatory; an emperor (Richie Ren, last seen in “Flirting Scholar 2″) who wants to ‘go out and experience the real world’ sneaks out of the palace disguised as a peasant. Accompanied by some royal escorts (also disguised), they run into some rather curious situations and hilarity ensues when they try to get themselves out of it! Along the way, the emperor meets Phoenix (a gorgeous Barbie Hsu) who owns an inn-slash-restaurant and falls in love.

The plot may be a bit old and cliched, but the film makes it up with its own form of laughing therapy. From the get go – even from the opening sequence – the film tries to outdo itself with the amount of comedy involved. The filmmakers pull out all the stops: slapstick, jokes, puns, popular references, parody; you name it, it’s probably in there. Even in romantic scenes, one can’t help but giggle at the cheesy lines or the silly condition of the characters. And if all else fails, nothing beats a few musical numbers and dance to break the tension and garner more laughs from the audience!

Richie Ren does a commendable job as the emperor that falls for Phoenix, although this writer thinks that Ren is more believable as the naïve commoner that the emperor impersonates. As an emperor, Ren lacks the charisma and presence. Barbie Hsu however, is spot-on as the strong, feisty Phoenix and complements Ren’s character quite well. Yet, the stars that steal the show are the supporting characters! Look out for the three ’sidekicks’ of the emperor – the royal historian, the royal doctor, and the royal bodyguard – who have the best lines and laugh-out-loud moments.

All in all, even though this is a rather overused premise, “Adventure Of The King” still manages to bring in laughs and even throw in a bit of romance for good measure. Give this a go if you like Chinese New Year-esque films as it’s bound to make you feel good with all the endorphins released from laughing!

Depending on which version you saw, it may not make sense that there are returning characters for the sequel. After all, in the original British version (SPOILER ALERT), we learn that Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) has not escaped as originally thought and instead is still miles underground, the creatures closing in. Thankfully, afraid to depress American audiences, Lionsgate cut out the final scene when it was released stateside, allowing Sarah to actually see the light of day once more.

Enter the sequel. Sarah has somehow lost her car from the first film (and her memory) and is found by a local, who turns her over to authorities. In shock, she can’t remember what happened to her or her friends, though she is covered in their blood. Conveniently, for some odd reason, the local sheriff forces this traumatized woman back underground to search for her dead friends. You can guess the rest.

“Guess,” however, is a soft word. You know what is going to happen, because The Descent: Part 2 is almost identical to the original, except it is cheesier, dumber and less terrifying.

Directed by Jon Harris, the editor of the first film, the movie looks, feels and sounds like the original, which is great. The way he and writers James McCarthy, J. Blakeson and James Watkins incorporate the scenes and dead bodies from the first film is quite intriguing, and really make the movie feel like a proper continuation.

Except Harris can only attempt to replicate the terror of the first film. Where The Descent relied just as much on the slow emergence of the creatures, Harris seems only capable of evoking fear by having the creatures jump in front of the camera at predictable moments. The monsters seem dumber, louder and less threatening than before, which is a part of what made the original work so well. The characters too are less interesting and lack depth, something that wasn’t a problem before.

Harris literally copies camera shots from the original as liberally as the screenwriters copy plot elements. A cave-in? Check. A fight in a pool of disgusting ooze? Check. A climax in the feeding area, followed by a desperate climb up a hillside covered in animal bones? Check, check check. The movie is, literally, a copy of the original at times.

But the main problem with The Descent: Part 2 is that it’s so much cheesier than the original. Clearly working with a smaller budget, the set pieces don’t seem quite right. Furthermore, the bright-red blood and a focus on over-the-top gore makes the picture fun to watch, but much less frightening. In one scene, a woman kills a monster with her bobby pin, and that’s only one of several “what-the-f**k” moments. Don’t get me started on the out-of-left-field ending.

Nevertheless, The Descent: Part 2 is still fairly entertaining, and as long as you’re able to embrace its on-and-off-again cheesiness you should fine enough to enjoy. It’s not nearly as scary, but The Descent: Part 2 is an adequate sequel.

Best Worst Movie English Movie Review

Best Worst Movie might just be the most enjoyable film ever made about the most implausibly awful movie ever made. To be fair, there are cinematic train wrecks far worse than the straight-to-video 1990 release Troll 2 (which doesn’t feature trolls or bear any relation to the first Troll film) – what sets this celluloid gem apart is the sincerity of its cast and crew.

to erase his memory of the film’s indiscernible plot, amateurish special effects and hellaciously wooden acting. In that time, however, something curious happened. Despite (or more accurately owing to) its sheer horrificness, Troll 2 developed a fanatical cult following. In an almost cathartic exercise, Stephenson sets out to document the phenomenon.

His role as the dad in Troll 2 would be the beginning and end of his Tinseltown dreams. Stephenson uses Hardy to anchor his documentary; the likeable dentist (even his ex-wife thinks he’s great) provides a springboard for both Troll-ophiles and the uninitiated to jump straight in.

With an irrepressible smile and dose of self-depreciating humour, Hardy travels to Troll conventions around the country, where he recreates scenes and soaks up the adulation of his fans. Along the way we meet a colourful collection of groupies, as well as the cast and crew of the film, who share their own bemused recollections of the filmmaking process. Most fascinating among these is Troll 2’s Italian director Claudio Fragasso.

Fragasso is convinced his feature is a work of genius, and that feeble minded American audiences are unable to comprehend its weighty themes. It’s difficult to know if the director is hamming things up for the camera, although he certainly seems genuine. The episode in which Stephenson visits the women who played his mother – she appears to be suffering from some form of mental health issues – feels awkwardly exploitive and is perhaps the only blight on what is otherwise a good natured rollick.

There is of course a subtext here about the fleeting nature of fame and shallowness of celebrity culture. At its heart however, this documentary is about the power of cinema to bring people together and make us laugh. Even if it is for all the wrong reasons.

Una de las peores cintas de terror sobrenatural con destinatario juvenil que haya arrojado el cine español. “E.S.O.” demuestra incompetencia en cada uno de sus planos y una incapacidad total para desarrollar una narración sostenible.

La secundaria puede ser una puerta al misterio y una excusa para una muestra de fantaterror catalán. La secundaria, o las siglas que la significan, puede ser un maravilloso punto de encuentro entre aventureras pesquisas en los subterráneos de un siniestro colegio y terror sobrenatural impuesto por curas o espectros, un cruce entre el espíritu juvenil Enid Plyton y el terror sobrenatural de carga ligera.

Podría ser, pero no es ese el caso de “E.S.O.”. Resulta difícil imaginar un favor más flaco a la industria y al género (sea cual sea la marca y procedencia) cuando asistimos a este uno de los subproductos más incompetentes, a cualquier nivel, que jamás haya facturado nuestra cinematografía. Pasan pocos minutos antes de que uno empiece a percatarse de que prácticamente todo en la película de Santiago Lapeira está mal: un prólogo barato, prescindible; unos créditos que anticipan el desastre de la planificación y el montaje; un par de paupérrimos diálogos de pasillo que ponen de manifiesto la nulidad de todos y cada uno de los personajes; y un doblaje nefasto e inexcusable del catalán al español que es otro obstáculo hacia una hipotética empatía del espectador.

Todos, claro está, excepto sus desafortunados (en todos los sentidos) protagonistas, aislados de toda realidad y lógica dentro de su ficción, zombificados bajo los estereotipos de manual más vergonzosos vistos en el reciente cine español.

Lo peor de todo es que “E.S.O.” ni siquiera tiene el beneficio de resultar divertidamente mala. Como rancio título de serie B que es, se halla del todo exento de sentido del humor o mala baba, hasta el punto de que una de las perlas dialogísticas que arroja uno de sus personajes centrales («parece una peli de terror») está más cerca de entenderse como un insulto que como chiste autoconsciente. Visualmente infame, incapaz de usar cualquier recurso con conocimiento de causa (coexisten gratuitos usos de cámara en mano, cámara lenta o picados con una chirriante banda sonora) o de utilizar efectos visuales sin provocar la vergüenza ajena, “E.S.O.” sólo podría contemplarse con cierta benevolencia si se tratara de un proyecto audiovisual de alumnos de ese grado de la enseñanza. Este crítico se atreve a aventurar que, incluso entre esas aulas, encontraríamos más talento y buen hacer que los demostrados por Lapeira.

Sinopsis

En un instituto de secundaria, un grupo de alumnos —María, Sonia, Paula, Pol y Esteban— forman una pandilla muy unida. La llegada de Axia, una chica con especial sensibilidad hacia los temas sobrenaturales, les fascina y la incluyen en el grupo. Con motivo del 75 aniversario del instituto, se inician unas obras de mejora de las instalaciones, y la tutora del curso, Laura, les propone un trabajo sobre su historia. Empiezan a reunir información y descubren que, durante la Guerra Civil, algunos de esos túneles se hundieron, sepultando a las personas que se escondían en ellos. Varios niños quedaron sepultados y, según unos artículos que encuentran en internet, las personas sepultadas se “aparecen” en los sitios donde murieron. Reciben el nombre de E.S.O. (Entidad sobrenatural oculta). Cuando entran en el túnel… la aventura se convierte en pesadilla.
